How To Solo On A Cigar Box Guitar
Cigar box slide guitars are a great tool for providing a strong bluesy backing to lead guitar or vocals, but they can also be a great lead themselves. Learning to solo on your cigar box guitar is an important step in getting the most out of your instrument.
Below is a full video lesson, a backing track in the Key of G that you can improvise along to, and a PDF of a Blues in G chord progression if you want to play both parts with a friend.
In the video we will go through getting your guitar in tune, the positions of the notes in the G Minor (Gm) Pentatonic Scale, and the easiest ways to start improvising and soloing along to a blues chord progression. I will also show you an example of how good a solo can sound using just one string and following the same notes as the chord progression.
Try this out, getting to know which notes are part of the scale and what sounds good. Work with the tempo and feel of the backing track and see what you come up with.
